The Role
- The role will focus on developing a low-cost air quality sensor for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) for Urban remote air pollution sensors.
Responsibilities
- Develop of a VOC air quality sensors, ensuring data quality and sensor up-time
- Data analysis, including machine learning techniques where appropriate, on the gathered air pollutant and noise data
- Present and communicate results to the previous project involving low-cost air quality sensor and wider audience such as local authorities in Malaysia.
- Develop policy recommendations in collaboration with the project team and partners
Additional Tasks
- Manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines
- Adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols
- Test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate
- Contribute ideas for new research projects
- Collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports, journal articles, policy briefing paper sand occasionally present papers and posters
- Use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment
- Carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and industrial groups
- Any other duties appropriate with the role.
Selection Criteria
- Hold a relevant Master/PhD, (or near completion*) or equivalent relevant experience
- Malaysian nationality
- Possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes
- Experience in machine learning and sensors developement
- Experience of analysis of large-scale datasets
- Ability to manage own academic research and associated activities
- Previous experience of contributing to publications/presentations
- Ability to contribute ideas for new research projects and research income generation
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings
